Open Society Foundations ReSET Award: Health Economics

Interacting closely with the key CEELBAS research cluster on Health & Wellbeing, Dr Christopher Gerry (UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies) has been successful in a joint application to the Open Society Foundations (Soros) to establish a ‘Regional Seminar for Excellence in Teaching’ (ReSET). Dr Gerry will serve as Academic Director (jointly with Dr Yulia Vymyatnina from European University St Petersburg) in a three-year project to promote the development of Health Economics within universities across the CIS countries. Among the key participants, including leading international scholars, is the former CEELBAS Postdoctoral Fellow Benoit Mathivet (now Health Policy Advisor for the WHO in Tajikistan: see research project details). The ReSET scheme aims to promote the systematic redevelopment and internationalisation of the undergraduate curriculum in support of building free and open societies (www.soros.org/initiatives/hesp/focus/reset).

New materials for enhancing oral fluency in Polish available for CEELBAS teachers

The CEELBAS Language Repository now houses a new set of resources for teachers of beginners and intermediate level Polish. There are a total of 24 units for each level, designed to supplement in-class teaching, plus examples of materials adapted for student self-study. Instructions (in English) are provided for each unit to enable easy adaptation to other languages.
